The Federal High Court in Abuja, on Wednesday, reinstated Philip Shaibu as the Deputy Governor of Edo State. The court nullified the impeachment process conducted by the Edo State House of Assembly, declaring it unconstitutional.
In its ruling, the court ordered the Inspector General of Police to immediately restore Shaibu’s security details. Additionally, the court mandated the payment of Shaibu’s salaries and allowances from April, when he was removed from office.

Shaibu’s impeachment and removal from office in April 2024 led to the swearing-in of Godwins Omobayo as his replacement. Throughout the process, Shaibu maintained that his removal was illegal and vowed to challenge it in court.
With this court ruling, Shaibu has been officially reinstated as the Deputy Governor of Edo State, marking a significant turn in the state’s political landscape.
