In line with the promises made by the Oyo State government following the tragic attack on the Gbenpakan community in Saki West Local Government, where about 10 lives were lost and several others were injured, relief materials have been distributed to the affected families. The incident, which occurred about three weeks ago, prompted a swift response from the state government, led by Deputy Governor Barrister Bayo Lawal, who visited the area to assess the situation and offer the government’s support.

During the visit, Barrister Lawal, on behalf of Governor Seyi Makinde, promised to provide relief materials to the families of the victims. The pledge was fulfilled on Sunday when the Executive Chairman of Saki West Local Government, Hon. Gbenga Olaleye Akinola, led a state delegation to present the items to the community.
The relief materials distributed included essential items such as maize, beans, vegetable oil, gaari, school bags, cement, mosquito nets, and other household necessities. While presenting the materials, Hon. Akinola reassured the community of the Oyo State government’s commitment to supporting all affected individuals and reiterated the government’s priority in protecting lives and property across the state.

Akinola reminded the community that Oyo State, under Governor Seyi Makinde, is known for its responsiveness to the needs of its people. He highlighted that the deputy governor’s immediate visit after the attack was a testament to the government’s commitment to providing support and ensuring the safety of residents. He further mentioned that the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) had also visited the area through the state government, offering their condolences and making necessary recommendations to assist the affected families.
Hon. Akinola further promised to periodically visit the families of the victims and provide continuous support as they rebuild their lives. He reiterated the commitment of the state government to stand by the community in this difficult time.
In response, the head of the Maiti Allah association in the area, Alhaji Ibrahim Abubakar DG, expressed his gratitude to the state government for their swift action and concern for the community. He commended the government for providing much-needed support to the families and urged the victims’ relatives to take solace in God, accepting the incident as the will of Allah. Alhaji Abubakar also called on everyone to fear God in their dealings and avoid taking human life.
On behalf of the affected families, he thanked the Oyo State government for their quick response and compassionate approach to alleviating the community’s suffering.
The event was attended by several dignitaries, including the Leader of the House, Hon. Soliu Salaudeen, political functionaries, members of Maiti Allah, community leaders, and career officers. The presentation of relief materials is seen as a significant step in providing succor to the grieving community and reinforcing the government’s commitment to the welfare of its people.
