Prince Abimbola Akeem Owoade has been officially approved as the new Alaafin of Oyo by Governor Seyi Makinde, marking a significant moment in the history of the ancient Oyo Kingdom.
Dotun Oyelade, the Commissioner for Information and Orientation, confirmed the development in a statement, noting that Prince Owoade’s selection followed extensive consultations and traditional divinations by the Oyomesi, the Kingmakers of Oyo. The Governor’s endorsement affirms the Oyomesi’s recommendation, concluding the process to fill the throne left vacant since the passing of His Imperial Majesty, Oba Lamidi Olayiwola Adeyemi III, on April 22, 2022.

Hon. Ademola Ojo, the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, described the announcement as a resolution to the socio-political and legal disputes that had surrounded the succession process. He urged citizens of Oyo State to celebrate this historic occasion and support the newly appointed Alaafin.
In his remarks, Hon. Ojo expressed optimism that the reign of Prince Abimbola Owoade would usher in peace, prosperity, and unity for the Oyo Kingdom.
