The Federal Government has appointed Vice Admiral Ibokette Ibas (Rtd) as the Administrator of Rivers State, tasking him with overseeing the state’s affairs in the interest of its residents.
According to the declaration, which has been published in the Federal Gazette and forwarded to the National Assembly, Ibas will not enact new laws but may formulate necessary regulations. However, such regulations must be reviewed by the Federal Executive Council and formally approved by the President before implementation.
The government clarified that the judiciary in Rivers State remains unaffected by the declaration and will continue to function as mandated by the Constitution.
The appointment is aimed at restoring peace and order in the state amid ongoing political tensions. The Federal Government expressed hope that this intervention would reinforce constitutional responsibilities among all political stakeholders in Rivers State and Nigeria at large.
