The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has announced that 379,997 candidates will retake the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) following widespread technical issues and irregularities that marred the exercise.
At a press conference held on Wednesday, the Registrar of JAMB, Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, was visibly emotional and broke down in tears as he accepted full responsibility for the setbacks experienced during the exam. He attributed the situation to negligence on the part of some staff and assured that corrective steps were being taken.
The decision to conduct a re-sit comes after numerous complaints from candidates about unusually low scores, technical glitches, and irregularities. Prof. Oloyede revealed that affected candidates would include those who sat for the exam in 65 centres across Lagos and 92 centres in the Owerri Zone, covering the five South-East states.
Wiping his tears with a handkerchief, the registrar reaffirmed JAMB’s commitment to fairness and transparency, stressing that the Board would not allow the failures of a few to affect the aspirations of many.
