Tragedy has struck the Nigerian House of Representatives once again with the untimely passing of Hon Ekene Abubakar Adams, the representative of the Chikun/Kajuru Federal Constituency in Kaduna State.
Hon Ekene Abubakar Adams, a former football player, had an illustrious career in sports administration before transitioning to politics. He served as the General Manager of Kada City Football Club and Remo Stars, bringing significant contributions to the sports sector. Despite being a newcomer to the House of Representatives, his extensive sports background earned him the position of Chairman of the House of Reps Committee on Sports.

Adams’ political journey was marked by his relentless efforts to establish a strong foothold. Initially, he joined APGA, then moved to APC, and finally found success with the Labour Party (LP), winning the 2023 House of Reps election. His previous political endeavors included contesting for local government chairman under APC in 2021, where he lost in the primaries, and similarly losing APC primaries for the House of Reps before securing the LP ticket.
Coming from a diverse background, Adams’ family reflected Nigeria’s rich cultural tapestry: his mother is Igbo, his wife is Yoruba, and his father hails from a minority tribe in Kaduna.
Hon Ekene Abubakar Adams passed away in the early hours of today, marking the second death in the House of Representatives within just seven days.

In a statement, a colleague expressed profound sorrow: “It is with a heavy heart that I announce the passing of our dear colleague, Hon. Ekene Abubakar Adams, Member representing Chikun/Kajuru Federal Constituency, Kaduna State. His contributions and commitment to our House of Representatives will be greatly missed. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and loved ones during this difficult time. May his soul rest in peace.”
