In a major stride towards empowering the local community, Hon. Gbenga Olaleye Akinola, Executive Chairman of Saki West Local Government, announced a new Agriculture Empowerment Initiative aimed at boosting local farming and supporting residents. This was made known during the swearing-in ceremony of Supervisory Councilors and Special Assistants held on Monday at the local government secretariat, Saki.

Addressing the audience, Hon. Akinola highlighted the key components of the initiative, designed to provide substantial support to local farmers. “We are dedicated to empowering our people and enhancing agricultural productivity in Saki West. This week, we will roll out the Agriculture Empowerment Form, which will enable our residents to access various benefits,” he stated.
One of the primary features of the initiative is the provision of land for cultivation at a 50% discount. This measure is intended to make farming more accessible and affordable for local farmers, encouraging increased agricultural activity and self-sufficiency within the community.

In addition to discounted land, the initiative includes a collaboration with financial institutions to offer soft loans to beneficiaries. This financial support will help farmers invest in necessary resources and infrastructure, thereby improving their productivity and economic stability. “We have had a meeting with our financial institutions, and beneficiaries will have access to soft loans. This financial backing is crucial for our farmers to expand their operations and improve their yields,” he explained.
The Agriculture Empowerment Initiative reflects the local government’s broader commitment to sustainable development and economic empowerment which is a replicate of Governor Seyi Makinde’s agricultural sustainable program, Akinola emphasized the importance of these efforts in addressing the needs of the community and driving progress. “Our goal is to create opportunities for our people and support them in achieving their aspirations. By empowering our farmers, we are investing in the future of Saki West and ensuring a prosperous and sustainable community,” he added.
The initiative has been met with enthusiasm and optimism by the people, who see it as a significant step towards improving their livelihoods. The rollout of the Agriculture Empowerment Form and the associated benefits are expected to commence this week, marking the beginning of a new era of agricultural development in Saki West.
The collaborative efforts between the government and other stakeholders underscore the shared commitment to the success and well-being of Saki West residents.
In his closing remarks, the LG boss reaffirmed the government’s dedication to supporting the local community and encouraged residents to take full advantage of the opportunities presented by the initiative. “We are here to serve you and ensure that Saki West thrives. Let us work together to build a brighter and more prosperous future for all,” he concluded.
