The Legal Practitioners Privileges Committee (LPPC) has officially released the final list of new Senior Advocates of Nigeria (SAN) for the year 2024, elevating 87 legal practitioners to this prestigious rank. The announcement was made following the committee’s 164th Plenary session, chaired by the Honorable Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Olukayode Ariwoola.
Among the newly designated SANs, Saki City proudly celebrates its first-ever recipients: Prince Omosanya Atilola Popoola and Prince Ademola Kamardeen Abimbola. This historic achievement has brought great joy to the community, marking a significant milestone. Both Popoola and Abimbola are distinguished sons of Saki, being the offspring of notable retired judges—Honourable Justice Stephen Popoola and Honourable Justice Munta Ladi Abimbola, respectively.

The LPPC’s decision was conveyed through a statement by Mrs. Hajo Sarkin Bello, the Chief Registrar of the Supreme Court and Secretary of the LPPC. The committee clarified that the SAN rank is a mark of excellence awarded to legal professionals who have demonstrated exceptional skills in advocacy and contributions to legal academia. The list includes 86 advocates and one academic, Prof. Gamu Oke Aseyemi.
The committee also addressed five petitions submitted against some applicants, all of which were dismissed as lacking merit. The formal swearing-in ceremony for the newly appointed SANs is set for September 30, 2024.
This event follows an earlier shortlist of 98 candidates, with the final selection confirming the outstanding achievements of the chosen legal practitioners, including the groundbreaking recognition of Saki City’s legal talent.
