The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Oyo State has categorically denied rumors that Governor Seyi Makinde has instructed all Local Government Chairmen in the state to leave the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON) by August 5, 2024. Michael Ogunshina, the spokesperson for the Oyo State PDP, dismissed these allegations as unfounded and misleading.
Ogunshina emphasized that neither Governor Makinde nor any other official of the Oyo State Government has issued such a directive. “These claims are completely baseless and appear to be an attempt to discredit Governor Makinde’s administration,” he stated.

The rumors seem to stem from dissatisfaction following the recent Supreme Court ruling on Local Government Financial Autonomy, a decision that Governor Makinde has publicly acknowledged and respected. Contrary to the false reports, there have been no actions taken by the Governor to undermine this ruling or interfere with the management of local government finances.
Governor Makinde has consistently upheld the principles of rule of law and the autonomy of local governments. The PDP has called on the public to disregard these misleading claims and to rely on verified information from credible sources.
