The Intelligence Response Team (IRT) of the Nigeria Police has invited the President of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Joe Ajaero, for questioning over allegations of criminal conspiracy, terrorism financing, treasonable felony, subversion, and cybercrime. The invitation was issued through a letter signed by Assistant Commissioner of Police Adamu Mu’azu on behalf of the Deputy Commissioner of Police, IRT.

According to the letter, Ajaero is expected to report at the IRT office in Abuja on Tuesday, August 20, 2024, for an interview regarding the ongoing investigation. The letter, dated August 19, warned that failure to comply with the invitation would result in the activation of a warrant for his arrest.
The letter stated in part: “This office is investigating a case of Criminal Conspiracy, Terrorism Financing, Treasonable Felony, Subversion and Cybercrime in which you were mentioned. You are therefore invited to interview the undersigned on Tuesday 20th August, 2024, by 10:00 a.m. prompt, at IRT Complex, Old Abattoir by Guzape Junction, Abuja, through the Team Leader.”
The police further emphasized that Ajaero must comply with the invitation, noting that failure to do so would compel them to take further legal action.

This development has sparked significant public interest, given Ajaero’s prominent role as the leader of the NLC, a key labor union in Nigeria. The coming days will reveal more as the investigation unfolds and the NLC President responds to the allegations.
