
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has called on all stakeholders in the upcoming Edo State governorship elections, scheduled for Saturday, September 21, 2024, to conduct themselves with peace and sportsmanship.
In a statement by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, the President urged the governorship candidates, political parties, and their supporters to respect the democratic process and the will of the people. He expressed his confidence in the voters’ ability to make informed decisions regarding their future leaders.

President Tinubu stressed that democracy flourishes through civility, tolerance, patience, and adherence to the rules of the electoral process. He noted that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has assured the nation of its commitment to a free and fair election, calling on all stakeholders to collaborate in ensuring a peaceful and successful exercise.
The President lauded the efforts of the governorship candidates and political parties for centering their campaigns on issues crucial to the people of Edo State, such as improving livelihoods, fostering economic growth, and contributing to national development.
Furthermore, President Tinubu called on all citizens of Edo State to remain peaceful and respectful throughout the voting process. He urged them to address any disagreements amicably through established legal channels.
The President also reaffirmed his confidence in the professionalism and integrity of security agencies and INEC officials, urging them to maintain impartiality and avoid any actions that could undermine the integrity of the electoral process.
